          Adolf Chelius's Biography

          German painter of animals and landscapes who toured almost all areas of Europe from 1885 to 1895 for creative inspiration.
          In 1876, aged 20, Chelius had moved to Berlin to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. The following year he moved to the Academy of Arts in Vienna. In 1878 Chelius returned to Germany and settled in his native city. There he soon became a student of the drawing teacher Heinrich Hasselhorst at the Städel Art Institute.
          Adolf Chelius died on 28 January 1923 in Munich, aged 66.
