          Alfred Labhardt's Biography

Swiss gynaecologist and obstetrician who introduced a form of tubal sterilization, and a method of operation during uterine prolapse, the colpoperineocleisis subtotalis, named after him, connected with his name. Labhart’s sign, a gestation mark, is the livid discoloration of the introitus vaginae in pregnancy.
Scientifically, Labhardt devoted himself above all to basic biology and clinical research, in particular the endocrinology of ovulation. He was an opponent of the social indication of the gestation abortion and devoted himself to family planning. He propagated clinical deliveries instead of home births in a private house.
He died on 14 December 1949 in Basel, aged 75.
