Norwegian Jewish nanny and victim of the Holocaust. Her parents were Jewish immigrants from New York (father) and Lithuania (mother).
In the the four volume work “Våre Falne [Our Fallen] 1939-1945,” commissioned by the Norwegian government in 1945 to commemorate those who had perished during the war, Egelstein’s entry is in Volume 1, p. 486.
Egelstein was arrested on 26 October 1942 and deported to Germany as part of the Holocaust where she died together with her parents later that year.
