Belgian painter who lived in Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp, among other places. He painted religious scenes, historical scenes, portraits and allegorical scenes.
Edmond Van Hove moved to Paris in 1871 where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He returned to Bruges in 1875, where he was appointed at the Academy in 1890. In 1898 he painted his most famous work, De Drie Zustersteden (referring to Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp), a work consisting of three panels of 70 x 53 cm. Each city is symbolized by a girl figure. In 1899, Van Hove settled in Antwerp and in 1902 he moved to Ghent to return finally in 1910 to Bruges.
He died on 13 May 1913.
