German classical philologist, poet and translator. In 1831 he published a volume of Hilarolypo’s poems in Greek. His second work, The Legend of Odysseus after Homer (3 volumes, 1834), was dedicated to his teacher Ludwig Uhland. In addition to Uhland, he had lifelong friendships with the Swabian poets Justinus Kerner and Albert Knapp.
Eduard Eyth married Julie Capoll (1816-1904) and was the father of writer and engineer Max Eyth, Eduard Wilhelm Eyth (1851-1875), and Julie Conz (nee Eyth, 1839-1896). Eduard Eyth died of jaundice at the age of 74 on 28 April 1884 in Neu-Ulm.
