          Germaine Laugier's Biography

French actress, primarily in the theatre, but also in film. Germaine Laugier made her debut at the age of eight at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris in March 1911 in La Gamine by Pierre Veber and Henry de Gorsse (with Paul Capellani). As an adult, she often appeared on the Parisian stages, notably at the Comédie-Française (for example in Les Fâcheux by Molière in 1921, with Georges Berr and Fernand Ledoux), at the Théâtre de l’Odéon (for example in Le Mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais in 1924, with Lucien Dubosq in the title role, as well as Patrie! by Victorien Sardou in 1936, with Paul Amiot), or at the Théâtre de l’Atelier (in Henri IV by Luigi Pirandello in 1951, with François Chaumette in the title role).
Enraptured by her career treading the boards, she appeared in only seven films, the first being the silent documentary Molière, his life, his work by Jacques de Féraudy (1922, where she appeared alongside several colleagues from the Comédie-Française). Her only silent fictional film is Henry Roussel’s La Valse de l’Autieu (1928, with Pierre Blanchar portraying Frédéric Chopin, herself playing George Sand).
Germaine Laugier died in Paris on 2 October 1982 at the age of 80.
