          Hendrik van Loon's Biography

          Dutch-American writer, a journalist and historian, famed for his “Story of Mankind,” 1921, “Story of the Bible,” 1923, “America,” 1927 and “R.v.R,” 1930, a fictional biography of Rembrandt.
          Van Loon emigrated to the United States in 1903 and studied at Harvard and Cornell (B.A., 1905). He was an Associated Press correspondent in Russia during the revolutionary outbreak of 1905 and in Belgium at the beginning of World War I.
          He died on March 11, 1944 in Old Greenwich, CT, and his son Gerard Willem published his biography in 1972.
