          Jane Powell's Biography

          American actress, singer, and dancer, a Hollywood perennial ingénue of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals in the 1940s. Powell emerged from a difficult childhood to appear to films, television and stage that featured her soprano voice and girl-next-door image. She was a veteran of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
          Petite at 5’1″ (1.55 m) and 90 lbs (41 kg), a soprano with a range of 2 1/2 octaves, she first sang on radio when she was seven. She made 16 movies for MGM from 1944-1955.
          Her first adult role was in the musical play, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, opening on 22 July 1954. She starred in the Broadway hit Irene from February to September 1974.
          In 1949, Powell married; and they had two children. She divorced a second husband in 1963. Her third marriage was on 27 June 1965 on the way to a total of five marriages; three children.
          Jane Powell died of natural causes in Wilton, Connecticut, on 16 September 2021 at the age of 92.
