          John Entwistle's Biography

British musician with the rock group “The Who,” big in the 1960s and ’70s. Nicknamed “The Ox” and “Thunderfingers,” he played keyboards, tuba, synthesizer and guitar, and was also a songwriter, film and music producer. The Who’s rock opera Tommy came out in 1969. He later made several solo LPs, including Whistle Rhymes (1972) and Mad Dog (1975). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Who in 1990.
Entwistle, 57, the eternally straight-faced bass player for The Who, was found dead of an apparent heart attack on 27 June 2002 in his Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel room. Reports state the band was preparing to start a U.S. tour the next day. There was no sign of drugs or alcohol in the room, however the cause of death was a heart attack “brought on by the significant amount of cocaine” in his system, according to the Las Vegas coroner.
