          José Luis Perotti Ronzoni's Biography

          Chilean painter and sculptor. National Prize of Art of Chile 1953. In 1921 he moved to Paris where he entered to study with Master Bourdelle at the Academy de la Grande Chaumiere and Colarossi Academy in that city. In 1923, already back in Chile, he was one of the founders of Montparnasse Group. In 1927, he was appointed Director of the Sculpture Workshop of the School of Fine Arts of Chile. He was a multifaceted artist, by all expressions of visual art. He mastered his techniques, so he got achievements in almost all specialties. He has been appreciated more for his teaching. His aim was the rescue of handicrafts and its elevation to the rank of major arts and the recognition that there is creativity and can be beauty in the production of every object. His search was not the fame of the original and avant-garde artist, but the contribution to the development of his aesthetic ideas: permanent summarized in this his constant preaching saying “we must create conditions so that there is an art of man, by man and for the man. ” In other words, his idealism, to relate the process of democratization of society beauty. “The cult man seeks beauty” once wrote.
          He died in Santiago on 22 June 1956.
