          José Ponce Bernal's Biography

          Spanish journalist and political activist who died from injuries after he was imprisoned, interrogated and tortured at the end of the Civil War.
          From 1928 to 1935, José Ponce Bernal held various management positions in the Huelva Press Association, of which he was vice president until 1931, he was an active defender of the rights of journalists and free speech. He was editor-in-chief of the Diario de Huelva chronicle.
          As the founder and leader of the Federal Democratic Republican Party of Huelva, he was prosecuted and suffered reprisals and imprisonment. He died on 5 September 1940 at age 42.
          His life is the subject of a biography by Felicidad Mendoza Ponce published on 1 May 2021.
