          Joseph Van Cottom's Biography

          Belgian sports journalist, passionate about boxing and sports in general, he founded the weekly La Boxe et les sports in 1919 and he contributed to the French newspaper Le sportif for the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1921.
          In 1921, he founded L’Écho Théâtral Artistique and Cinematographic. He subsequently became a member of the Société des Gens de Lettres and the Professional Union of the Belgian Press. In 1925, he was co-founder of the Association de la Presse Théâtrale and, in 1926, a founding member of the Association de la Press Cinématographique Belge.
          Already well known, his international fame came with the release of No. 1 of Ciné-Revue (formerly Théatra-Ciné), which he launched with his friend Jean Leempoelle on 13 October 1944. A friend of the greatest actors, some of whom owe him a lot in the success of their careers, he is remembered as the prestigious coordinator between the studios and the artists of Hollywood, from Cinecittà through all the others. He died on 30 October 1994 in Forest at age 46.
