          Leo Szilard's Biography

          Hungarian nuclear physicist and inventor who filed numerous patents in Germany on ideas and inventions with Einstein during the 1920s. In many cases, he left incomplete ideas with other inventors for them to develop. A brilliant and prolific thinker, he was not gifted in completing his works without the direction of another and he completed his life in relative obscurity. His work included nuclear investigations that eventually led to the inventions of Oppenheimer and others.
          Spitz never had a permanent home, usually living in hotels. He considered himself a permanent bachelor in spite of accumulating a wife along the way. Szilard died of heart failure in La Jolla, California on 30 May 1964, aged 66.
