          Michiel English's Biography

Belgian Roman Catholic priest and historian, and the brother of artist Joe English.
He was ordained a priest on 21 May 1910. He was an assistant priest in Herzeeuw (1910) and a teacher in the Episcopal St. Amandscollege in Kortrijk (1910), where, among others, Antoon Viaene was one of his pupils. He was then usher in the Saint Saviour Cathedral (1919) and archivist-librarian of the diocese (1933). His interests and writings included a mix of history, archeology, art history, folklore and liturgy.
From 1945 until his death he wrote a weekly insight into the parish’s religious life under the title “Dagklapper.” In 1985-1987, six volumes of the complete edition of 771 “Dagklapper” entries were published, covering the period 1945 to 1962.
English was a board member of the Society for History in Bruges in 1943 and in 1960 became vice president. He was also for more than half a century a contributor to the magazine Biekorf.
He died on 22 March 1962.
