          Oprah Winfrey's Biography

Oprah Winfrey is an American talk show host, actress, and business executive known for her rags-to-riches story. Despite being born illegitimate and virtually abandoned in the Deep South, she has become a self-made billionaire and one of the most influential women in the world.

Winfrey endured a harsh upbringing. Shuffled between relatives, she faced sexual abuse from a young age and had a premature baby at 14, who died shortly after birth. Despite these trials, she was ambitious and won two beauty titles in University. By 19, she was a CBS news journalist, the first female and black newscaster in Nashville.

She eventually got her own show, “People Are Talking,” which led to the national debut of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 1986. By 1999, she had amassed a fortune of $415 million. In addition to her show, Winfrey also taught a leadership class at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and launched her magazine, “O,” in partnership with Hearst Corp.

Winfrey also made a mark in the film industry, earning award nominations for her debut in Spielberg’s “The Color Purple.” Her personal life stabilized when she met PR executive Stedman Graham, whom she started dating in 1986 and got engaged to in 1992. Despite not marrying, they maintain a close relationship and coordinate their schedules to spend time together.

In 2003, Winfrey was listed as a billionaire by Forbes magazine. Her philanthropy is notable, with a $40 million investment in a school for impoverished girls in South Africa. In 2009, she announced the end of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” after 25 years of daily broadcasts, and confirmed her plans to pursue other projects.
