          Paul Graetz's Biography

German-Jewish comedian, film actor and major star of the Weimar theatre and cabaret scene in Berlin in the 1920s. In his film roles he usually played strange and grotesque characters.
On 28 February 1933, Paul Graetz fled Berlin for London to avoid arrest by the National Socialists (Nazis). His Jewish background and the criticism he made of the Nazis in his plays would have proved fatal under the new regime.
At the end of December 1935 he travelled to New York and later to Hollywood, California where he appeared in several B movies.
He died on 16 February 1937, aged 47, in Hollywood.
