          Paul Schürmann's Biography

          German military pathologist who conducted groundbreaking research on tuberculosis and the vascular system. Also a passionate photographer and filmmaker he led a team from the Military Medical Academy who worked ont the front line in World War II recording material for medical training films (in particular for the recovery and treatment of war casualties and repatriation). First, he was deployed in France and subsequently during the airborne battle over Crete. After a war injury suffered in Crete, he was taken to a military hospital. He died during a photo shoot from artillery fire by the Red Army at Borisov on 2 July 1941 early in the morning.
