His greatest successes include winning the gold medal in the 4×200 m freestyle relay and the silver medal in the 4×200 m freestyle relay at the 1991 World Swimming Championships in Perth, Australia.
At the 1988 Olympics, Sitt competed in the preliminary heat of the 4×200 m freestyle relay, and in the final Michael Groß and Thomas Fahrner swam for Sitt and Stefan Pfeiffer, finishing third along with Erik Hochstein and Rainer Henkel. All six swimmers involved in the preliminaries and finals received bronze medals.
