Queen Consort of Greece Friederike's Biography

Princess of Hanover by birth and Queen consort of the Hellenes as the wife of King Paul of Greece.
She was the only daughter of Ernst August, then reigning Duke of Brunswick, and his wife Princess Viktoria Luise of Prussia, herself the only daughter of the German Emperor Wilhelm II. Both her father and maternal grandfather would abdicate their crowns in November 1918 following Germany’s defeat in World War I. As a descendant of Queen Victoria, she was, at birth, 34th in the line of succession to the British throne.
She married Prince Paul of Greece, her first cousin once removed, in Athens on 9 January 1938. They had three children, including the future Queen Sofia of Spain and the future King Constantine II.
Frederica died, aged 63, on 6 February 1981 in exile in Madrid during ophthalmic surgery.
