Robert A. Krakower, more popularly known as Ra Uru Hu, was a distinguished Canadian author, teacher, and spiritual leader. He was the founder of ‘Human Design’, a spiritual teaching system that blends elements from numerous disciplines such as astrology, the I Ching, the Indian chakra system, and the Kabbalah.
Born in Canada, Ra Uru Hu began his journey as a humanities teacher at Morna Valley school in Ibiza, Spain. This was after he migrated from Quebec in 1983. However, his life took a significant turn following a mystical experience in January 1987. During this experience, Ra Uru Hu claimed to have interacted with an entity he called ‘The Voice’. This interaction, which spanned eight days, allegedly resulted in the transmission of information that became the foundation of the Human Design System (HDS).
Following this spiritual revelation, Krakower began promoting the Human Design System under his new name, Ra Uru Hu. The teachings of this system are controlled by a worldwide network of authorized and licensed instructors. Independent publishers discussing HDS often refrain from using the name, Ra Uru Hu, due to trademark constraints.
Ra Uru Hu’s life prior to his spiritual journey was quite different. In the summer of 1970, he married Helaine Herman at the Shaare Zedek Synagogue in Montreal. He had obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sir George Williams University and had worked in sales and promotion. In June 1973, he ascended to the position of Vice-president at Alpha Data Ltd, a company based in Victoria, British Columbia. His professional journey later took him to roles as an advertising executive, magazine publisher, and media producer.
On March 12, 2011, Ra Uru Hu passed away in Ibiza, Spain. He was 62 years old. His wife Ambuja and their three children survived him, carrying forward his legacy.
