          Renée Zellweger's Biography

American screen actress and producer who has received numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and two BAFTA Awards. Her 2001 performance as Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones’s Diary earned her an Academy Award nomination, with another nod from the Academy for her role in the film adaptation of the musical Chicago in 2002. An Oscar for Best Supporting Actress was given to her for her scene-stealing portrayal of Ruby Thawes in Cold Mountain (2003). She reprised her role as Bridget Jones in two equally successful sequels (2004, 2016). Her portrayal of Judy Garland in the 2019 biopic Judy won her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Her Hollywood breakthrough role was the romantic interest in Jerry Maguire, a 1996 movie starring Tom Cruise. She played the wife of boxer James J. Braddock in Cinderella Man (2005) and author Beatrix Potter in Miss Potter (2006). Roles in smaller scale films, such as Appaloosa (2008), My One and Only (2009), and Case 39 (2009), were followed by a six-year hiatus from the screen. In 2019, she starred in the Netflix thriller anthology series What/If and received critical acclaim for portraying Judy Garland in the biopic Judy.
Zellweger’s parents were immigrants, her father from Switzerland and her mother from Norway. A good student, she attended University of Texas at Austin, majoring in English but the drama bug bit her when she took a drama class. She made several small and independent films before Jerry Maguire.
From 1999 to 2000, Zellweger was engaged to Jim Carrey. Although her name was linked romantically with other celebrities like Jack White and Damien Rice, Zellweger remained single until her marriage to Kenny Chesney on 9 May 2005 on St. John in the Virgin Islands. Their marriage never made it to their 6-month anniversary; Zellweger filed a petition for annulment on 14 September 2005. It became final on 20 December 2005 in Los Angeles. In 2009, she started dating Bradley Cooper, after having met on the set of Case 39 in 2009. They separated in 2011. From 2012 to 2019, she was in a relationship with Doyle Bramhall II, who is a musician, songwriter, and producer.
