          Thekla Schild's Biography

          German architect, who became the third woman in Germany to earn a degree as a certified engineer, in December 1913.
          In 1916, she married the Düsseldorf architect Wilhelm Firgau (1889-1969). Their daughter Susanne Firgau (b. 1919) was a graphic artist and children’s book illustrator, and their son Werner Wilhelm Firgau (b. 1921) was an engineer.
          Schild recorded her experiences as a student of architecture in her memoirs, which are unpublished. She died on 13 November 1991 in Stuttgart, aged 101.
