Description
The world has been swept by clouds of “brain dust.” These biochips, loaded with software designed to augment the human mind and body, have been absorbed by millions of humans … and cats, dogs, whales, and birds. Insects, fungi, and trees have been covered with the stuff. Children have been exposed and the dust threatens to leak past the door seals of prepper bunkers.
People are now able to DMM (direct mental message) each other via the routers that the chips formed in their skin. Their eyes can see through telescopes and infrared cameras. Their minds know the chords to every song and they can rebuild any engine and use any weapon.
The Decimal-Percenters behind Singularium have millions of brain-puppets, the Lariats, at their beck and call. They’re determined to control the planet’s mind-sphere. Thousands have died in the new war and many more thousands will die before the day is over. Lia Bellamy and Matt Dunston are doing everything they steer the new world toward creativity and freedom.
Meanwhile, the dusted five- and six-year-olds of the world have minds uncluttered by the noise of the adults. Their new mode of communication includes the ability to twist nearby envelopes of space-time. They have other ideas about how humanity should transition to the unexpected future.
