The Hardest Letter I’ve Had to Write

Hi everyone,

Forgive me for a few months of silence.

I know many of you anticipate and enjoy my founder newsletters. This one was one of the most difficult I’ve ever had to write. My Gate 56 has been pinging all this time, but I just couldn’t find the words.

Back in May, after almost 3 years of being away from home, I decided that I couldn’t ignore my spleen any longer. It was time. The war had just begun, fuel prices were going through the roof and everything in me said “go home to Scotland.”

I’d been living in South East Asia, keeping my living expenses as low as possible as every dollar we made was reinvested into the apps. The mission was the priority.

All the while, my beloved Grandmother, an angel of this earth, was slowly deteriorating as dementia took over her world, after dedicating her life to taking care of the elderly, the disabled and, of course, me and my mother.

She had succumbed to a disease that I know many people are struggling with these days. We’re all facing it in some way or another.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw her, slumped over the dining room table. A shell of who she used to be. Barely able to string a sentence together, my heart broke seeing a superhero looking sad.

I asked Bella, what’s the cause of this disease? I don’t mean the standard Western explanation, I’m talking about the mind, body and soul connection.

She told me, the body has a wonderful way of keeping track of what we don’t address. The unresolved emotions, neglecting one’s soul can lead us to despair. It’s like her soul is finally saying enough is enough, it’s time to take note.

I asked Bella, what can I do to help her find peace?

Pacing around the old folks home, falling over her own feet, she wouldn’t stay still. For all her life she’d been taking care of everyone else and finally the body and mind had given in. She was forced into contemplation because she’d ignored the warning signs.

And then it dawned on me, her nervous system had been so conditioned to be on her feet helping others, she’d forgotten how to take care of herself.

I told her “Granny, you are so deeply loved. It’s your turn for us to take care of you now. You can relax.”

I’m pleased to say, it’s been almost 3 months, and she’s barely had another fall. My Mum tells me she’s more at peace now.

It was in that delicate moment when I finally realised why it was that I was the one chosen to bring HDAI into the world.

I want you to always remember who’s behind HDAI.

Not me, not my ego, just a soul that was brought into this world by an angel. Here to build something that makes a difference. A place where you can share your darkest moments with full confidence of your privacy, a place where you can belong.

I just want to send a huge wave of gratitude to every single one of you. Without you all supporting HDAI (paid or not), I would have never been able to go home.

We will continue with this mission. More inspired than ever.

With the deepest love, and gratitude,

Kyle
